This week, Medela unveiled the winner of its annual Breastfeeding in Art competition, a creative and colourful celebration of breast milk and the unique bond between mother and child.Bringing together mums in the breastfeeding community once again, Medela was delighted to see the competition return for its second year, with the winning entry, a truly powerful piece of digital art, taking centre stage with its honest reflection of the winner’s personal experience.
The winning entry, a digital self-portrait that showed a breastfeeding woman climbing a mountain, really demonstrated the strength of breastfeeding women as they overcome any challenges in any breastfeeding experience; the hard work is always worth it when you reach the top, a true achievement. As artist Jessica Jaye shared, it certainly is an adventure! The winner will now see her piece printed into a limited-edition mug to enjoy a well-deserved hot drink!
The competition, which encourages the online community of breastfeeding mothers to encapsulate their breastfeeding journey in art, truly celebrated each individual experience however the artist wanted to represent it. The competition gained inspired entries from painting, drawing, digital art and even poetry, many with heartfelt, personal stories behind them.
Medela’s Marketing Manager, Charlotte Price, commented: “We are so pleased to celebrate Breastfeeding in Art once again this year, supporting mums to slow down, do something they enjoy and demonstrate their feelings and experiences of breastfeeding in any art form. We loved the winning entry as it really showed that the hard work is worth it, even if you face challenges in your breastfeeding experience.”
