The Edge

The Edge is a truly awe-inspiring tourist attraction in New York City that is quickly becoming a must-visit destination for travellers from around the world. Located in the Hudson Yards neighbourhood of Manhattan, The Edge is an observation deck that extends 80 feet out from the 100th floor of 30 Hudson Yards, making it the highest outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere.

From the moment visitors step into the elevators that transport you to the top of the building, you know that you are in for a treat. The elevator ride is brief, but as soon as the doors open, you are greeted with a stunning 360-degree view of New York City.

Not one for the feint-hearted, the deck itself is made entirely of glass, providing unobstructed views of the city skyline, including iconic landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and Central Park.

For those that prefer the security of indoors, there are also two levels of viewing and photo opportunities inside, again providing excellent 360-degree views.  Changing seasonally, during our recent visit, we immersed ourselves in the colourful floral backdrop thanks to the artistic Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid, a sponsored display by Viktor&Rolf.

While there are several viewing platforms in the city, the Edge has that little extra something by inviting visitors to experience New York City from a completely new perspective. The deck’s glass floor window also allows you to look down and see the city 1,100 feet below, while the outdoor platform gives a sense of floating in the sky. This unique vantage point provides you with an unforgettable view of the city that is simply impossible to replicate from the ground.

One of the highlights of The Edge is the Skyline Steps, which leads visitors down to a lower platform that provides even more dramatic views of the city. From this vantage point, visitors can see straight down to the street level and experience the true scale of the city.

Exploring can be thirsty work so the champagne bar on the 100th floor serves a variety of drinks and light bites, making it the perfect spot for a romantic date or a celebratory toast.

Tickets are priced $40 (£33) per adult, $38 (£31) per senior (age 62 and above) and $35 (£29) per child (age 6-12 years).
